About mumscience

Written for the decade nobody warned you about.

mumscience is an independent editorial site about hair, hormones and the years after children. It exists because the advice available to mums whose hair has changed is either “give it time” or a product page, and neither explains what is actually happening.

Who writes it

Dr Rachel Osei

Dr Rachel Osei, BSc (Hons), MSc Trichology, is a consultant trichologist with fourteen years in clinic, the last eight of them specialising in postnatal and hormonal hair loss. Every article on this site is written by Rachel from what she sees in clinic: women in their late thirties and forties whose hair changed after children, who were told by everyone that it would come back, and for whom some of it didn’t.

How we work

We explain mechanisms rather than list tips. We say plainly what the evidence does and does not support, including for the things we recommend. We tell you when to see a GP instead of reading further, and the quiz is built to route you there if your answers suggest it.

How we’re funded

Where we recommend a product it is because we have looked at how it is formulated and think it addresses the problem properly. We are paid a commission if you buy through our links. That funds the site; it does not decide what we write, and we would rather you read the article and understood the problem than bought anything on our say-so.
